 June 8, 2026
Starting as early as Wednesday, June 10, crews working for King County Wastewater Treatment Division will begin digging small holes using vacuum trucks to verify underground utility locations along the temporary sewer diversion pipe in Auburn. Crews expect to complete this work in about a week. This work will provide important information about utility locations. Once utilities are verified, crews will restore the pavement surface.
The utility investigation work will be done in the following locations in Zone 30:
-
2nd Street Northeast
- Pike Street Northeast
- 4th Street Northeast
- 6th Street Northeast
- Henry Road
-
8th Street Northeast
See the map below for more details. We have also created an interactive construction map, which you can find construction update by visiting: kingcounty.gov/MStreetTrunkRehab.
-
Work will generally occur on weekdays from 7 am to 5 pm on business days. Please note that this work is weather-dependent, and schedules may shift.
- All roads will remain open to traffic.
-
Crews will maintain driveway access.
- Temporary restriction of on-street parking in work areas.
-
Nearby neighbors may experience slight vibrations and noise from the drilling equipment. The noise generated by the trucks is below the allowable daytime noise limits within the City of Auburn
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone area.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing the M Street Trunk sewer pipe to maintain safe and reliable service in Auburn. This pipe carries untreated wastewater (water from sinks, toilets, and drains) out of your neighborhood. It flows through a pipe system to the South Treatment Plant in Renton, where we clean and safely release it into Puget Sound.
This project will repair approximately 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe. Crews will also repair 45 maintenance holes and over 100 sewer connections to homes and businesses. Sewer services will continue working throughout the project. In phase one of the project, we repaired 0.7 miles of pipe.
The project is separated into four work areas based on the sewer pipe size. These are Zones 18, 24, 30, and 36. We finished construction on Zones 18, 24, and a small section of Zone 30 in 2025. In 2026, we will work on Zones 30 and 36. For more details on the impacts in each area, please see the 2026 construction map below.
Construction is disruptive. King County’s goal is to complete construction efficiently to minimize disruptions to the community.
