Last month, we celebrated the opening of the Crosslake Connection, finally connecting light rail on the Eastside across Lake Washington to light rail from Lynnwood to Federal Way. This was a monumental moment for our community. It’s something I have fought for my entire career as an elected official and it has transformed how people can travel throughout our region.
Now we turn to the future of transit in our region. We are looking at opportunities and challenges as we continue to expand light rail and bus service throughout the Puget Sound Region. It’s an important moment as Sound Transit is grappling with not enough money to pay for our ST3 transit expansion.
My office would love to hear about your hopes and dreams for our regional transit system. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with thoughts, ideas, and questions! You can reach my office at 206-477-1006 or claudia.balducci@kingcounty.gov.

We observe Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month every year—raising awareness of what sexual assault is, how to prevent it, and the supports and services that are available to survivors. Unfortunately, this continues to be a necessity. People who perpetrate sexual assault often avoid consequences and people who have been sexually assaulted continue to be abandoned, shamed, and blamed. I am committed to ensuring King County makes policy and funding decisions that support survivors and deliver real justice.
If you or someone you know has experienced sexual assault and need help, resources are available. You are not alone. King County Sexual Assault Resource Center provides free, confidential, 24/7 support and information to empower you to take your next steps. Services are available in Spanish and English for all survivors—adults, children, and their families. You can call their 24-hour Resource Line at 1-888-998-6423 anytime or their office Monday through Friday between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM at 425-226-5062.

This Sunday, May 3, from 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, join Centro Cultural Mexicano at Redmond Downtown Park (16101 Redmond Way, Redmond) for their annual Cinco de Mayo event! Enjoy live music, food, arts and crafts, vaccines, community resources, and more. Don’t miss this exciting family celebration of Mexican culture and heritage! (P.S. you can take the 2 Line to the Downtown Redmond Station for an easy five-minute walk to the park—no need to worry about parking!)
