Grinding the roadway
As early as May 5, crews will grind the roadway on SE 22nd St, 78th Ave SE, SE 24th Street, and 81st Ave to create a flat surface for paving. Work will start on one side of the road and shift to the other side. Roads will be single lane alternating traffic. Access for residents and vehicles will be maintained. The road will return to two lanes outside of work hours. Grinding and paving are expected to be completed in two days.
During grinding, residents may hear increased noise and experience vibrations. local access for residents will be maintained.

Please plan for up to 45 minutes for crews and equipment to complete grinding work in front of your driveway for access. The roadway will be rough and unfinished until paving is complete. Please drive slowly!
Final Paving Impact and Temporary Closures
Once grinding is complete, crews will pave the road. Paving requires three to four hours to cure. This work is anticipated to be completed in two days.
During paving, crews may need to temporarily close the road and redirect traffic around the area. Work will start on one side of the road and shift to the other side. Once paving begins, crews cannot stop or allow cars to drive on the newly paved roadway. Driveway access will be inaccessible for three to four hours while paving and curing.

No parking signs will be in place, and crews will alert residents whose driveways will be impacted on SE 22nd St, 78th Ave SE, SE 24th Street, and 81st Ave. If you plan to leave your home during permitted hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) the week of May 5, consider parking at the Mercer Island Park & Ride. - Approved work hours are 7 am to 7 pm Monday to Saturday.
- All work will be performed in the public right-of-way.
- Noise, dust, and vibrations typical of an active construction project.

- Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
