Early morning closure of Coal Creek Parkway SE on April 9 and 10

King County’s contractor is continuing construction activities in Bellevue.

On the early morning of Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10, the contractor will stop traffic in both directions on Coal Creek Parkway SE for short durations. The Coal Creek Parkway SE closures will be between the Factoria Boulevard SE and Forest Drive SE intersections. Closures will occur intermittently between 2:30 am and 5 am.

These closures are required so the contractor can safely move oversized equipment in and out of the work area. Drivers should expect significant delays on Coal Creek Parkway SE during these hours. We encourage drivers to use alternate routes during the closure.

What to expect:

  • Equipment staging: Prior to the morning closures, the contractor will also move small equipment in and out of the work area during regular work hours on April 7 and 8.
  • Traffic impacts: Expect traffic delays. City of Bellevue Police, lane closure controls and flaggers will be on site to direct traffic. Drivers and cyclists will wait outside the road closure area until directed through.
  • Work hours: 2:30 am to 5 am, Thursday, April 9 and Friday, April 10.
  • Southbound single-lane closure: On April 9 and 10, there will be an ongoing southbound single-lane closure on Coal Creek Parkway SE happening at the same time and place as the intermittent full closures. This closure will begin at 2:30 am and continue until it becomes the regularly scheduled 6 am to 3 pm southbound single-lane closure.
  • Construction noise: Typical to a work site.

Ongoing daytime single-lane closures

The daytime northbound and southbound single-lane closures on Coal Creek Parkway SE will remain in place as construction activities continue. We will provide timely updates on any changes to the expected traffic impacts.

  • Permitted work hours for the southbound single-lane closure are 6 am to 3 pm, Monday to Friday.
  • Permitted work hours for the northbound single-lane closure are 10:30 am to 7:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

About this project 

Construction for King County Wastewater Treatment Division's (WTD) Coal Creek Sewer Upgrade Project began in 2025. This project will provide needed wastewater capacity for growing communities in Bellevue and Newcastle.

After construction, the contractor will restore the Coal Creek Natural Area, parking areas, and affected roadways to protect the creek, trails, and infrastructure. The rebuilt Red Cedar Trailhead will keep the same look-and-feel while enhancing accessibility for visitors of all abilities.
