Beginning as early as Friday, March 27, crews will begin restoration work including asphalt grinding and paving operations where the temporary sewer diversion pipe was buried. This pipe was used to keep sewer service running while King County repaired part of the M Street sewer pipe. This work will take approximately one week to complete.
The road restoration work will be done in the following locations:
- 14th Street Northeast, from N Street Northeast to M Street Northeast
- 16th Street Northeast, from N Street Northeast to M Street Northeast
- N Street Northeast, from 14th Street Northeast to 16th Street Northeast
- M Street Northeast, from 14th Street Northeast to 18th Street Northeast
Crews will also complete the installation of new American Disability Act’ (ADA)’s compliant ramps and sidewalks on 14th Street Northeast at N Street Northeast to improve safety and accessibility.
Please note that this work is weather dependent and the schedule is subject to change.
We have created an interactive construction map, which you can find active construction site by visiting: kingcounty.gov/MStreetTrunkRehab.
- Work hours are generally on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on most streets. We will notify you when weekend or night work is scheduled.
- Noise from grinding machine that will remove the top layer of asphalt in the roadway.
- Construction vehicles and materials may be staged nearby.
- Flaggers will direct vehicles and pedestrians around the work zone.
- Street parking will be restricted in posted areas.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing approximately 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, ranging in size from 18 to 36 inches wide, in Auburn. We will also fix 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Rehabilitating the M Street Trunk will help preserve aging infrastructure and ensure the reliability of our regional wastewater system.
Construction is disruptive. King County’s goal is to complete construction efficiently to minimize disruptions to the community.
We are committed to keeping you informed throughout this project. We will provide advance notice of construction activities through mail, email, text messages, web bulletins, and project flyers. If you are hosting a community event, we can set up a table, provide materials, and answer questions. Please contact the project team if you are interested in having us attend!
