VFR route update
Kent Arrival in North Flow discontinued
The Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) at King County International Airport-Boeing Field would like all airport users and tenants to be aware of the following change.
For pilots flying under VFR (Visual Flight Rules): effective March 19 the Kent Arrival in North Flow is discontinued. All other VFR routes remain accurate.
Additional changes to the VFR routes are forthcoming. Airport staff are working with ATCT to update the VFR routes on the airport website and for distribution to pilots. The FAA requires additional time to revise airspace constraints. As a result, the official changes and cutover date are anticipated to be announced closer to May.
Airport users with questions can contact Airport Operations anytime at 206-296-7334 or AirportOps@kingcounty.gov.
The FAA published a Safety Alert (PDF) about VFR procedures at BFI on March 23. Additional route changes will be published on the Seattle Terminal Area/Flyway Planning VFR Chart effective May 14, 2026.
Shawn Warren joins KCIA as Airport Duty Manager
King County International Airport welcomes Shawn Warren as an Airport Duty Manager. He started his new role on March 30. Warren comes to KCIA from Teterboro Airport in New Jersey, where he was an Airport Operations Supervisor for three years and an Airport Operations Coordinator for three years.
“I'm looking forward to working at another Part 139 General Aviation airport that should feel familiar in many ways while also being a unique new experience,” Warren said.
Before Teterboro, he served in various roles as a hydroelectric operator, and in IT, mechanical and retail. He worked in Maine and Florida while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation from Utah Valley University.
Warren is originally from New Jersey. When he can find time for it, he enjoys hiking and exploring the outdoors.
“I'm looking forward to enjoying all the scenery and nature that the Seattle area has to offer,” he added.

Save the date for Vision 2045 Open House
King County International Airport-Boeing Field (KCIA) is undertaking two important studies to plan for the future of the airport: Vision 2045 Airport Plan and the Part 150 Study.
You are invited to an open house on Thursday, May 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the KCIA Flight Service Station, 6526 Ellis Ave. S., to learn more about Vision 2045. The Vision 2045 Airport Plan looks at how KCIA can continue to operate safely and efficiently while meeting changing aviation needs. The plan identifies potential projects and improvements needed to support future demand and reflects feedback received from interested and affected parties who have participated in Vision 2045.
At the open house, attendees can learn more about the preferred alternative for how KCIA can adapt and evolve to meet future aviation demand.
Next Steps for Vision 2045: the team is completing additional environmental analysis, a Capital Improvement Plan, and an Airport Layout Plan for the projects included in Vision 2045. Once the environmental review is complete, the airport will host another public meeting before submitting the plan to the King County Council and the Federal Aviation Administration for consideration and approval.
Next steps for the Part 150 Noise Compatibly Plan: The Part 150 Study will help the airport develop noise exposure maps and evaluate noise compatibility programs. The team is preparing the report for submittal to the FAA for their review along with all comments received on the draft report and at the January public hearing.

Airport leads tours - sign up for one today!
King County International Airport-Boeing Field welcomes members of the public for tours to see how the airport operates. If you or your organization would like to book a tour, please contact KCIACommunityOutreach@kingcounty.gov.
The airport led two tours last month for visitors from near and far.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
The airport hosted eight students and two professors who flew from the Prescott, Ariz. campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for a tour on Saturday, March 28. The students are members of the Aviation Business Networking Club. The majority are Aviation Business Administration majors, with the remainder pursuing pilot-related degrees.
Airport leaders and staff spoke with the group and answered questions about the range of business opportunities at KCIA and the airport's unique mix of general aviation and corporate tenants.
The students then toured the airfield and experienced the breadth of KCIA's facilities, including a visit with the Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) team. The group also toured Signature Aviation, one of KCIA's three Fixed-Base Operators (FBOs), and the Starbucks Corporate hangar.
