Sections of I-90 Trail on North Mercer Island expected to reopen by the end of the month |
|
|
Last month, crews began pipe repair work on multiple sections of the I-90 Trail between Island Crest Way and Shorewood Drive. Crews are now finishing repairs and restoring the work area. These sections of the trail are expected to reopen by the end of the month once restoration is complete.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during this critical sewer upgrade project. Project crews are working hard to finish construction along these sections of the I-90 Trail, so we can return this space to the community as soon as possible.
Until the trail reopens, please follow marked detours and signs. Drivers should use extreme caution while moving through this area.
Map of work areas with pedestrian and bike detours. Last month, sections of the I-90 Trail were closed for pipe repair work near Shorewood Drive, and between Island Crest Way and 84th Avenue Southeast. Until repairs are complete, please follow marked detours and signs and travel slowly around the work area.

Plans for final restoration:
When repairs are complete, crews will backfill the trail and temporarily restore the trail surface where the pipe was installed. Then, crews will restore all disturbed areas based on permit conditions agreed upon with the City of Mercer Island. Final paving is weather dependent and will take place during the next permitted paving window, which begins in the spring.
