I was thankful to recently join the newly elected King County Executive, Girmay Zahilay, to visit and tour the Eastgate Public Health Center in Bellevue. King County’s public health teams provide dental care, STI testing and treatment, behavioral health support and more for those who qualify. Additionally, qualified residents can receive this life-saving care whether they have insurance or not.

Councilmember Reagan Dunn joins colleagues to celebrate Black History Month.
I was proud to stand with my colleagues this week to celebrate Black History Month and commemorate the countless contributions of Black and African-Americans to our nation and our county.
Black History Month began as a weekly celebration in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson to honor the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln. In 1976, during the nation’s bicentennial, it was expanded to a month-long national observance recognizing the history and contributions of Black Americans.
Black History Month reminds us that there is no American history without Black history and is a helpful reminder to us all to reflect on the ongoing pursuits of equality and justice. In King County, which was renamed in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the month is the perfect time to celebrate and honor the contributions of Black Americans in our own community.
