As we begin to design the future Skyway Community Center and determine which programs it will offer, a new advisory committee representing the Skyway community is providing insight to ensure it meets the needs of the community today and in the future.
The Skyway Community Advisory Committee (SCAC) will help us keep the community informed throughout the planning phase for Skyway’s first community center, including decisions about the design, programs, and how residents can get involved.
The committee meets quarterly at the Skyway Resource Center from 3-5 p.m. Upcoming meetings will be on April 23, July 16, and October 15. Committee members are compensated at a rate of $75/hr for their time. If you're interested in becoming a committee member, email Gabriel Avila-Mooney at gabriel.avila-mooney@kingcounty.gov.

Women United assist in strengthening kinship families by serving underrepresented, Black, African American and BIPOC caregivers 55 years and older in the Skyway and West Hill communities of King County. They provide access to education, resources, opportunities, and support networks which ensure the well-being of children and their kinship caregivers. |

Founder and Executive Director Alesia Cannady started Women United in honor of her granddaughter who she is also raising. Since 2015, Ms. Alesia has been offering programs like the annual Love Train Block Party; most recently Grandma's Hands Art Therapy was implemented in addition to the Kinship Support Group, and more. Ms. Alesia is also a member of the Skyway Community Center Community Advisory Committee and is sharing her expertise on how the future community center can support seniors in Skyway. |

The Pacific Northwest is known for rain. The recent flooding highlights the opportunities to update or build new stormwater features that can help with rainwater (stormwater) flows, pollution, and climate resilience. King County is planning to update Skyway stormwater systems that flow into Taylor Creek. Working with your community, we can create a list of the most needed updates and designs, and investments that help build climate resilience and community health.
