
Every year, we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, our county’s namesake. Many King County offices, including mine, will be closed this Monday, January 19 to honor the holiday and there are many opportunities in the community to celebrate Dr. King’s legacy.
Bellevue Community Health Fair
The Martin Luther King Jr. Health Fair returns on Monday, January 19, 11:00 AM-3:00 PM at Crossroads Bellevue (15600 NE 8th St, Bellevue). This annual event offers activities and resources focused on improving health outcomes and fostering a sense of community.
Bellevue Family YMCA
On Monday, January 19, come to the Bellevue Family YMCA (14230 NE Bel Red Rd, Bellevue) to pick up a card made by Bellevue Youth Link and community volunteers, and help share community gratitude and support with someone who needs it. Between 11:00-12:30 PM or 5:30-6:45 PM, you can write your message, tape your card to the ”Thankful Wall” near the YMCA’s front desk and help spread the encouragement!
Green Kirkland Partnership
Join Green Kirkland Partnership for a day of environmental service and stewardship! Looking for a chance to get your hands dirty? Help restore critical habitat by removing non-native plants such as blackberry or ivy, planting native plants, and mulching and weeding.

Last week, the Centers for Disease Control announced a new childhood immunization schedule, removing seven vaccines, including flu, hepatitis, and RSV, from the list of recommended childhood vaccines.
Washington state health officials continue to encourage the 15 childhood immunizations recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the West Coast Health Alliance as the best way to protect children from getting vaccine-preventable diseases. According to the Washington State Department of Health, all childhood and adolescent immunizations recommended as of December 31, 2025 will remain available and covered by public and private insurance.
