Councilmember Steffanie Fain is seen speaking with Councilmember Sarah Perry and Kent Mayor Dana Ralph near the Green River on Friday, Dec. 12, 2025.
Dear Neighbor,
First and foremost, I hope you and your family are staying safe as our region continues to deal with the effects of several days of heavy rain. My name is Steffanie Fain, and I was sworn in on November 25 as your new representative on the King County Council for District 5, which includes Des Moines, Kent, Normandy Park, Renton, SeaTac, and Tukwila. My team and I will soon share more about our priorities, who we are, and how you can engage with us. But given the widespread flooding, I felt it was important to reach out immediately with information about current impacts and available resources.
A recent atmospheric river brought unusually high rainfall to South King County, and while the rain has eased in some places, many creeks, rivers, and drainage systems are still running high.
In some areas, water levels have started to stabilize, but it will take time for flooding to fully recede. Even as conditions begin to look calmer, saturated ground and standing water can continue to create challenges, including road closures and localized flooding—especially in low-lying areas.
King County crews are out monitoring conditions and responding where help is needed, and my office is staying closely connected with emergency management and public works teams. I want to make sure you have clear, reliable information and know where to turn if you need support.
Please continue to take care, avoid flooded roadways, and check in on neighbors—especially seniors and those who may need a little extra help—when it’s safe to do so.
-Steffanie
