Starting Thursday, November 6, crews will reline the sewer pipe on M Street Northeast between 14th and 22nd Streets. We will reline the existing pipe using a technology called Cured-In-Place-Pipe (CIPP) without excavating the road. In some areas, crews will need to work continuously for up to 18 hours to let the sewer pipes relining harden. Crews will work overnight on Thursday, November 6, and Monday, November 10. Crews will continue working on the remaining pipes and maintenance holes during regular hours from 7 am to 5 pm through November 24.
Nearby neighbors should expect nighttime noise from trucks and construction equipment. Crews will also use lights to see clearly while they are working. Lighting will be directed to work area to minimize light pollution.

Both night and day work will occur from November 3 through November 24.

Night work is anticipated to occur within permitted hours between 7 pm and 7 am on November 6 and 10.

Expect noise from trucks, generators, and other construction equipment. Noise from the CIPP relining trucks and generator should not be louder than a lawnmower.

The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing approximately 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, ranging in size from 18 to 36 inches wide, in Auburn. We will also fix 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Rehabilitating the M Street Trunk will help preserve aging infrastructure and ensure the reliability of our regional wastewater system.
In September through the fall of 2025, crews will repair Zones 18, 24, and some parts of Zone 30 on M Street Northeast, starting from the intersection on 14th Street Northeast to near 22nd Street Northeast. In summer 2026, crews will finish construction on the remaining part of Zone 30 and all of Zone 36.
Construction is disruptive. King County’s goal is to complete construction efficiently to minimize disruptions to the community.
