Final paving and restoration activities planned on 81st Ave SE as early as November 4

Road will reopen to through-traffic once paving is complete

Grinding the roadway

As early as November 4, crews will grind the roadway on 81st Avenue Southeast to create a flat surface for paving. Grinding and paving are expected to be completed in one day. This work is weather-dependent and may be rescheduled.

During grinding, residents may hear increased noise and experience vibrations. Crews will start work on one side of the road before switching to the other. 81st Ave SE will continue to be closed to through-traffic, but local access for Mercer Isle condo residents will be maintained.

Please plan for up to 20 minutes for crews and equipment to complete grinding work in front of your driveway for access. The roadway will be rough and unfinished until paving is complete. Please drive slowly!

Single-lane alternating traffic will be in place along 81st Avenue SE during this work for local access only. Please drive slowly and follow signage and flagger direction.

Paving impact and temporary closures Once grinding is complete, crews will pave the road on the same day. Paving requires a few hours to cure.   During paving, crews may need to temporarily close the road and redirect traffic around the area. Once paving begins, crews cannot stop or allow cars to drive on the newly paved roadway.

What to expect:

• Approved work hours are 7 m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
• All work will be performed in the right-of-way.
• Noise, dust, and vibrations typical of an active construction project.
  • Grinding will create additional noise and vibrations.
• Flaggers and single-lane alternating traffic during work hours.
• Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
• Garbage, recycling, composting, and mail service will be maintained.
