Tomorrow, Friday, October 17, join Youth Eastside Services for a free, family-friendly Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebration from 6:00-8:00 PM at Crossroads Community Center (16000 NE 10th St, Bellevue)! Enjoy live performances, including Aztec dance group Nahui Ollin Tezcatlipocatl of Bellevue and Mariachi music from Highland Middle School. Decorate a sugar skull, make paper flowers, and take part in food, music, and cultural learning about ofrendas (altars) and the symbolism behind this beautiful tradition of remembrance!

On Tuesday, I joined Councilmember Jorge Barón in proclaiming Domestic Violence Awareness Month in King County. Unfortunately, this proclamation continues to be all too necessary—on average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner. We talk about people who have experienced domestic violence as survivors, which implies the resilience that domestic violence survivors have in abundance. I am committed to ensuring that our system of services and supports provide survivors everything they need to draw on their wells of resilience to survive, heal, and thrive.
If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, there are resources available to help. The following organizations provide mental health services, emergency shelter, legal advocacy, and more.

The City of Bellevue has launched a new survey to understand how community members feel about living in Bellevue and whether the city is meeting the diverse needs of the community. The city will use findings from the survey to better understand the effectiveness of city services and identify areas where there are unmet needs and opportunities for improvement. The survey will also inform efforts to enhance the city’s approaches to community engagement.
The survey is open through Friday, October 31 and is available in multiple languages.
