Starting as early as Friday, October 17 through mid-November, construction crews will start cleaning sewer maintenance holes and begin the rehabilitation of the existing permanent sewer pipes in the following work zones:
-
Zone 18 on Main Street starting from 3rd Street Southeast up to the 2nd Street Northeast intersection.
-
Zone 24 on 2nd Street Northeast from M Street Northeast to Pike Street Intersections.
-
Partial zone 30 on Main Street Northeast from 14th Street Northeast intersection to north of 17th Street Northeast.
The construction crew has completed the installation of the temporary diversion pipe and pumping system for the summer/fall 2025 construction site. The temporary pipe will keep sewer service running while we repair the M Street Trunk sewer pipe.

-
Work hours are generally weekdays from 7 am to 5 pm on most streets and 9 am to 3 pm on M Street between 3rd Street Southeast and 2nd Street Northeast.
-
Night work will occur on M Street between 9 pm and 6 am. We will send out additional notifications as soon as we get the night work permit from the City of Auburn.
-
Wastewater service will be maintained during construction by a temporary pipe.
-
Flaggers will direct vehicles and pedestrians around the work zone.
-
Noise and odors from the pumping system and construction.
-
Street parking may be restricted in posted areas.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing approximately 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, ranging in size from 18 to 36 inches wide, in Auburn. We will also fix 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Rehabilitating the M Street Trunk will help preserve aging infrastructure and ensure the reliability of our regional wastewater system.
In September through the fall of 2025, crews will repair Zones 18, 24, and some parts of Zone 30 on M Street Northeast, starting from the intersection on 14th Street Northeast to near 22nd Street Northeast. In summer 2026, crews will finish construction on the remaining part of Zone 30 and all of Zone 36.
