Beginning Thursday, October 9, crews working for King County will begin work to install a temporary sewer diversion pipe across M Street Northeast near 2nd Street Northeast. Work hours are 8 pm to 5 am, Thursday, October 9, through Saturday, October 11. The temporary diversion pipe will keep sewer service running while we repair the M Street Trunk sewer pipe.
During this work, flaggers will direct one lane of alternating traffic to maintain access to M Street Northeast.
Once we complete sewer repairs on the M Street trunk, we will remove the temporary pipe and restore the area.
What to expect during this work
-
Night work will occur within permitted hours between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. on October 9 through 11.
-
Expect noise from trucks, excavators, and other construction equipment.
-
Lights will be used to safely illuminate the work area. We will point lights away from homes.
-
Construction vehicles and materials may be staged nearby.
-
Flaggers will direct vehicles and pedestrians around the work zone.
-
Street parking will be restricted in posted areas.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing approximately 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, ranging in size from 18 to 36 inches wide, in Auburn. We will also fix 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Rehabilitating the M Street Trunk will help preserve aging infrastructure and ensure the reliability of our regional wastewater system.
In September through the fall of 2025, crews will repair Zones 18, 24, and some parts of Zone 30 on M Street Northeast, starting from the intersection on 14th Street Northeast to near 22nd Street Northeast. In summer 2026, crews will finish construction on the remaining part of Zone 30 and all of Zone 36.
