Have you ever wondered what happens to water after it goes down the drain?
King County’s South Treatment Plant in Renton serves about 866,200 people across 240 square miles. If you live or work in or around Renton, your wastewater likely flows to South Plant.
We’ve created a new fact sheet that highlights how South Plant supports clean water and a healthy environment. Here’s what you’ll find:
Investing in the future: South Plant treats more than 69 million gallons of wastewater daily. When you pay your sewer bill, you help keep this system running through infrastructure upgrades, community programs, and sustainable practices.
Educational programming and learning opportunities: From CitySoil Farm and Waterworks Gardens to free educational field trips for students in grades 4-12, South Plant offers many ways for the community to learn about clean water and the environment. Find information about visiting South Plant here.
Resource Recovery: South Plant focuses on sustainability and resource recovery by transforming solids into a nutrient-rich biosolid product called Loop. It also captures methane gas for renewable energy and uses recycled water for cooling, farming, and watering sports fields.
