Starting as early as Monday, September 29, contractors working for King County will install temporary sewer diversion pipes and pumping system in work zone 24 and 30 to keep sewer service running while we repair the M Street Trunk sewer pipe. This installation work is expected to take approximately two weeks.
To maintain access to the driveway, we will bury the temporary pipe in a shallow trench where it crosses in front of driveway. Burying the pipe will take about a few hours. During the installation work, the construction crew will maintain driveway access. Once we complete the existing sewer repairs, we will remove the temporary pipes and pumping system and restore the area.
See the work zonal maps below for more details. We have also created an interactive construction map, which you can find by visiting: kingcounty.gov/MStreetTrunkRehab. This map will show active construction updates for Zones 18, 24, and part of Zone 30 during 2025.
Map update: Temporary diversion pipes crossing through driveway, alleys and local roads will be shallow buried.

- There will be traffic detours, equipment staging, and closures of travel lanes and sidewalks.
- Noise and odors from the pumping system and construction are typical of sewer pipe rehabilitation projects.
- Street parking will be restricted in posted areas.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone.
The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is repairing approximately 2.6 miles of old concrete sewer pipe, ranging in size from 18 to 36 inches wide, in Auburn. We will also fix 45 maintenance holes and over 100 side sewer connections to homes and businesses. Rehabilitating the M Street Trunk will help preserve aging infrastructure and ensure the reliability of our regional wastewater system.
In September through the fall of 2025, crews will repair Zones 18, 24, and some parts of Zone 30 on M Street Northeast, starting from the intersection on 14th Street Northeast to near 22nd Street Northeast. In summer 2026, crews will finish construction on the remaining part of Zone 30 and all of Zone 36.
