Weather forecasts over the next few days predict potentially dangerous heat, with the National Weather Service issuing an extreme heat warning for our region. The King County Regional Homelessness Authority is activating Tier 2 Severe Weather Protocols from today through the morning of Tuesday, August 26. Extreme heat can be associated with a spike in serious health issues like heart attacks, stroke, and kidney failure.
Anyone can call the Severe Weather Shelter Navigation Hotline at (206) 245-1026 for information on shelters and navigating to shelter locations. Families with children can call to be connected with a shelter and a ride to that location.
All King County Library System libraries are open to members of the public during their open hours and can be used as day shelter.
Many local community centers, day centers, and emergency shelters are open as cooling centers for people who need relief from the heat.
Please take care of yourselves and others as we get through this next heat wave.

The King County Veterans Advisory Board, a nine-member advisory board that works on issues related to the needs of local veterans, the resources available to veterans, and the programs that could benefit veterans and their families, currently has three openings. King County Veterans Advisory Board members must reside in King County and be veterans.
Individuals interested in serving on the board, must submit an application (a resume may be submitted in lieu of completing the application form) and a letter of interest. Candidates selected for an appointment will also be asked to complete a King County ethics program financial disclosure form.

Sadly, gun violence touches too many lives in King County. Our Public Health – Seattle & King County Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention invites King County residents to join a community feedback session to help shape its five-year strategic plan.
The Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention is partnering with the National Institute for Criminal Justice Reform to develop a plan focused on strengthening and expanding public safety efforts throughout King County. The session will begin with a presentation of the key pillars and proposed strategies, followed by breakout sessions where you can ask questions, share your thoughts, and provide valuable feedback.
Residents can join one of two sessions on Monday, August 25, one from 12:00-2:00 PM and one from 6:00-8:00 PM. Let’s work together to prevent gun violence in King County.
