Crews inspect damage on the White River Bridge (Photo Courtesy of WSDOT)
The White River Bridge on State Route 410 between Buckley and Enumclaw remains closed in both directions until further notice following a bridge strike on Monday, Aug. 18, which caused extensive damage to the structure. I know that the current detour for residents is extremely long and inconvenient, and I have been working with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) directly to share updates with you as quickly as I am able.
Bridge inspection crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation spent the first half of the week on the bridge doing an assessment and taking measurements. Structural damage extends the full length of the bridge and includes horizontal and vertical components.
Engineers are currently reviewing the data collected and are running models to better understand the extent of the damage and determine repairs, reopening options, and timelines. I am hopeful that that modeling will be completed in the coming days. WSDOT has informed my office that, if they can safely reopen the bridge to traffic, even if it’s with alternating single lanes, they will.
King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks is currently working with the city of Enumclaw on ensuring the Foothills Trail Pedestrian White River Bridge is open for emergency vehicles.
I will remain in consistent communication with WSDOT and continue to share updates with you as soon as possible. I encourage you to also look for updates using WSDOT’s real-time travel map. Additionally, information is available in the WSDOT mobile app and by signing up for WSDOT's email updates.

Call the Housing Repair program (206-263-9095) to learn who is eligible and how to get services. The Participatory Budgeting program specifically funded $100,000 for the East Renton Plateau.
King County’s Participatory Budgeting program is centered on community participation and collaboration. Community members submit ideas for improvements, projects, programs, or services that would make a positive difference in their neighborhoods. Then they vote to choose which of these will be funded. Since the program began in 2021, participants have directed more than $23 million to community priorities.
