King County Executive Shannon Braddock released the following statement after a federal judge in Washington state issued an expanded preliminary injunction blocking the Trump administration from imposing new conditions on public transit, public health, and homelessness services grants:
“King County continues to stand strong in defense of the law, our residents, our values, and the right of local governments to make decisions based on the needs of their communities. This case is about far more than individual grants. It’s about whether a presidential administration can bypass Congress and attach unlawful conditions to funding that communities depend on for essential services.
“We’re proud that our coalition has grown to more than 60 local jurisdictions and regional service providers across the country, reflecting the widespread concern over unlawful overreach by the Trump administration.
“We won’t be pressured into accepting conditions that compromise our ability to serve our residents. We’ll continue working to protect our communities and defend the legal boundaries established by the Constitution.”
