Pre-construction survey closing soon!
King County knows that construction can impact community members. The Coal Creek Project team wants to hear from you and your community about how best to keep you informed during construction.
Our pre-construction survey is open through September 12. Taking the survey requires approximately three to five minutes. Participants can reply to questions in their preferred language. We are not collecting any personal identifying data, and all data entries are optional.
Please share this survey with friends, neighbors, and others you know who may be interested in this project.
Recent briefings and community events
Over the past few months, the Coal Creek Project outreach team has attended briefings and events in the community to raise awareness and share information about upcoming construction. Recent community events the outreach team attended include the Newcastle Art Fair, Bellevue College Earth Market, and Bellevue Botanical Garden Earthfest.
Connect with us at upcoming events!
The Coal Creek Project outreach team will be at two upcoming community events. Stop by our booth to learn more about the project and what to expect as construction approaches. We hope to see you there!

Upcoming survey work in the Coal Creek Natural Area
Starting as early as September 8, crews will survey the decommissioning area of the Coal Creek Trunk in the Coal Creek Natural Area. The decommissioning area is south of Anna’s Pond to south of 125th Ave SE in the Natural Area.
The annual survey will inform future monitoring of decommissioned sections of pipe in the Natural Area after the new sewer pipeline is built.
What to expect during survey work:
- Work hours are from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday.
- Trail users in the Natural Area may see people wearing reflective vests and hard hats around the Coal Creek Trail, by the creek, or in forested areas.
- The contractor may remove small plants and branches to perform their survey work.
- The contractor’s survey is expected to take one week to complete. The contractor’s schedule may change based on field conditions and crew availability.
About this project
King County Wastewater Treatment Division's (WTD) Coal Creek Sewer Upgrade project is in construction. This multi-year project will provide needed wastewater capacity for growing communities in Bellevue and Newcastle.
After the pipe work is completed, the contractor will restore the Coal Creek Natural Area, parking areas, and affected roadways to protect the creek, trails, and infrastructure. The rebuilt Red Cedar Trailhead will retain the same look-and-feel while enhancing accessibility for visitors of all abilities.
