Survey work beginning in SODO and West Seattle as early as July 28, 2025
King County has proposed clean water facilities to reduce combined sewer overflows (CSOs) at five outfall locations at the mouth of the Duwamish River. These facilities will help control the stormwater and wastewater that is sometimes released into the Duwamish River during heavy storms. The proposed solution includes a new wet weather treatment station in SODO, a new storage tank in West Seattle (Industrial District West), a new outfall for cleaned water, and new pipes and supporting facilities to connect flows along the way.
To help with facility design, crews will begin survey work as early as July 28. The surveys will help us understand underground conditions. They will also help us to check for places or objects with historical or cultural meaning. The information we get from this survey will help us prepare to conduct construction work as safely as possible. Once work is complete at each site, crews will remove equipment and restore any disturbed surfaces.
-
Crews will work mostly on the road at the locations mapped on the back of this notification.
-
Crews may need to set up detours. If they do, flaggers will assist drivers and people walking or biking.
-
Crews will start work as early as July 28, 2025, and may continue for up to eight weeks. They may work at one to three sites at a time, for up to two days per site.
-
Crews will be on-site between 7:30 am and 5 pm.
-
Crews will use one truck and one support vehicle to complete the surveys.
-
You may hear engine noise, hammering, and feel slight vibrations while crews are working.
Next week, King County will visit businesses neighboring field work locations to share more information. If you do not receive a visit from a King County representative this week and anticipate impacts at your home or business, contact Bibiana Ocheke-Ameh, DWetWeaFacilities@kingcounty.gov, 206-263-3481.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly to stay safe and follow directions from flaggers.
