On Tuesday, the King County Council appointed Di Irons to the Fire District No. 10 Board of Commissioners. The district, which originally formed in 1941 and is 110 square miles in size, combined with the City of Issaquah to form Eastside Fire and Rescue in 1999. The cities of North Bend, Sammamish, Woodinville, and Fire District 28 have also joined to become a part of the consolidation.
Di brings over two decades of leadership experience and a passion for public service to the position. In addition to private business experience, she has also served in numerous government roles at the King County Council, the Washington State Occupational Therapy Practice Board, and the Washington State Board of Hearing and Speech. Di has been a resident in the Sammamish-Issaquah area for over 30 years and I am thrilled to see her serving our community in this new role.
With the dry season fast approaching, King County Fire Marshal Eric Urban has issued a Stage 1 Burn Ban for unincorporated areas. The ban, which prohibits yard debris fires and fires set to clear land, took effect on June 30.
The ban is being issued in conjunction with the King County Fire Chiefs Association and King County Fire Marshals Association. It does not apply to recreational fires or gas/propane appliances, including grills, pellet smokers, or charcoal grills. Learn more about the burn ban here.
----------
In addition to the burn restrictions, please know that King County’s ban on consumer fireworks in unincorporated areas is currently in effect.
- This ban impacts the District 9 unincorporated communities of Fairwood, Greater Maple Valley, Enumclaw Plateau, Four Creeks/Tiger Mountain, and the East Renton Highlands.
- Within city boundaries, firework regulations vary, but please note that all cities within District 9 except the cities of Black Diamond and Enumclaw have laws banning the discharge of fireworks within city limits. In the City of Enumclaw, legal fireworks can be discharged between the hours of 9 AM and 11 PM on July 4th. In the City of Black Diamond, legal fireworks can be discharged between the hours of 9 AM and midnight on July 4th.
- If you are setting off your own fireworks, please make safe choices for those around you and be considerate of the impact on your neighborhood. Be aware that bottle rockets, firecrackers, and missiles are illegal to buy, sell or discharge under state law. An easy way to make sure you are staying within the law is to purchase fireworks from within the city or other area you’re planning to launch them in.
