EMSOnline is the New Home for CE Courses
EMD offers quarterly Continuing Education courses to support both new call takers and dispatchers as they prepare for their time “under the headset,” and to introduce new or underused tools that benefit everyone.
In the past, these courses were provided as standalone offerings. While they were easy to access initially, they often became difficult to locate for future reference since they were shared via flyers that were typically deleted once the course was completed.
To address this, King County developed EMSOnline, a site dedicated to hosting continuing education for EMS Paramedics and EMTs across the county. This platform will now serve as the permanent home for Emergency Medical Dispatch CE courses as well.
Two courses are currently available under the "Dispatch" section on EMSOnline: Sick/Not Sick and Sending the Right Resources. Our next course is nearly complete and is expected to launch in September.
If you don’t have an EMSOnline login, or if you’ve forgotten your credentials, please reach out to your Training Coordinator for assistance.

Meet the Team Behind the Training: Instructional Design at Work
In the EMD world, our mission is to support new call takers and dispatchers through the Basic CBD course, and by offering Continuing Education (CE) opportunities throughout the year. While many of you have met our dedicated Basic instructors, there’s another key part of the education team that often operates behind the scenes: our Instructional Design team.
These are the creative partners who collaborate with us to develop the CE courses available on EMSOnline. From Sick/Not Sick to Sending the Right Resources, their contributions help ensure our content is engaging, relevant, and impactful.
It’s time to give them the recognition they deserve. Here’s a quick look at the Instructional Designers who help bring EMD education to life!

I grew up in the EMS community, so it has been a dream to work as an instructional designer for KCEMS. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my dog Remi, hosting celebrations, and my newest hyper fixation, clamming!

 Mike Richter
I’m an instructional designer with KCEMS. My favorite parts of this job are the creative aspects we get to bring with us, and the fact that each quarter we have a tangible product that we can add to our portfolio of accomplishments. My hobbies are playing music, hiking, biking, fishing…doing just about anything outside.

I have been an instructional designer for the last 8 years. A Seattle Native, so King County has been my home all my life! I love what we do here because it not only gives me a chance to unleash my creative side and build awesome content for our learners, but I get to meet a lot of cool people along the way. I have a tech background so jumping into the EMS space has been an amazing learning experience for me and I look forward to learning more as I continue my journey onward! I am a big sports fan, an avid golfer and most recently a new dad, so my “free time’ is filled with family and my baby girl.
