Starting as early as June 23, crews plan to begin paving and restoration activities on North Mercer Way between 80th Avenue Southeast and 81st Avenue Southeast.
Grinding and paving
Crews will first grind the roadway to create a flat surface before paving and striping. Grinding is expected to be completed in one day. Residents may hear increased noise and experience vibrations during grinding.
As early as June 24, once grinding is complete, crews will begin paving the road in areas where pipe repairs were made. Permanent paving and roadway striping are expected to be completed in one day.
To ensure safety, road closures will be in place during this work on North Mercer Way between 80th Ave S.E. and Island Crest Way and at 81st Ave Southeast and North Mercer Way.
Detours
Detours will be in place for vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians to allow safe movement around the work area. Detour routes are located on surrounding local streets. This includes 80th Ave S.E., S.E. 27th St, and Island Crest Way south of I-90 and S.E. 26th St, 84th Ave S.E., and S.E. 24th St north of I-90. See map below for more details.

Local access
Residential access will be maintained. Mercer Isle Condo residents will be able to access their homes from 81st Ave S.E. and Southeast 24th Street.
The intersection of 81st Ave S.E. and North Mercer Way is expected to remain closed during paving. This intersection will reopen once paving is complete. See the map below for more details.
Please travel slowly through the area and follow all signs, traffic control signals, and directions from crews.
 Final paving is taking place on North Mercer Way between 80th Ave S.E. and 81st Ave S.E. Remaining pipe repair work is taking place on North Mercer Way between 81st Ave S.E. and Island Crest Way. During this work, pedestrian, bike, and vehicle detours will be in place around the work area.
Pipe repair work
Remaining pipe repairs on North Mercer Way between Island Crest Way and 81st Ave S.E. will continue through June. This section of the work area will remain closed until crews can safely complete repairs. Final paving and restoration work are expected to take place in early July, following the completion of pipe repairs. Once this work is scheduled, a notice with more details will be sent out, and the project website will be updated.
