As early as June 11, following the completion of pipe repair work, crews will begin preparing the I-90 Trail for paving and restoration activities. To safely complete this work, the trail will be closed between Island Crest Way and Shorewood Drive and between Fortuna Drive and S.E. 35th St on north Mercer Island.
Crews will begin grading the trail in sections before moving on to paving and restoration. This work is expected to last throughout the month. While the trail is closed, please follow the posted trail detour routes.
Detours
During this work, pedestrians will be detoured along a temporary gravel path on North Mercer Way and sidewalks on 84th Ave S.E. and S.E. 26th St. Cyclists will be detoured to merge with traffic along N. Mercer Way, 84th Ave S.E., and S.E. 26th St. Both cyclists and pedestrians will be able to rejoin the I-90 Trail in areas where it remains open. See the map below for more details. Please follow all detour signs and travel slowly around the work area.
Please follow marked detours and signs. Drivers should use extreme caution while moving through this area.

Trail Reopening
These sections of the trail are expected to reopen by the end of June. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this critical sewer upgrade project. Crews are working hard to finish construction along this section of the I-90 Trail so that it can be fully reopened to the community.
Pipe Testing
After paving and restoration is complete and these sections of the trail reopen, crews will begin pipe testing to ensure the conveyance system is operating as planned. This testing will confirm that the system is safe, reliable, and ready to provide dependable sewer service for your community.
