On Tuesday, the King County Council unanimously voted to approve the motion I proposed and sponsored with Councilmember Jorge L. Barón on April 3 to appoint Shannon Braddock as King County Executive until November, when voters will elect a new County Executive.
I thank my colleagues for approving this motion, which I advocated for to empower Executive Braddock and ensure stability in our county government at a time of national chaos, uncertainty, and attacks on our county’s service to its residents. Executive Braddock is a highly skilled and experienced leader who is more than qualified to steer our local government effectively through upcoming challenges, such as federal volatility and our budget deficit, and move us forward with her “200-Day Plan” through November. I look forward to working with her and her team as we navigate the next several months to provide stable and high-quality services to all King County residents.

This Saturday, we will celebrate the opening of two new light rail stations on the 2 Line, Downtown Redmond and Marymoor Village. This continued growth of our light rail system will offer more fast, frequent, and safe transit to more people and invite them to explore everything Redmond has to offer.
These stations will also expand our integration of public art into our transit system. Sound Transit’s art program invests 1% of construction dollars to bring artwork to our stations, making them more welcoming, contributing to neighborhood character, and bringing beauty and joy to everyday transit trips. Join us on Saturday at 10:30am at Downtown Redmond Station for the ribbon cutting, live performances, and the unveiling of artist Julie Paschkis’ beautiful mosaics!

Next week, I invite you all to join me in celebrating Affordable Housing Week, an opportunity for our region to come together to create momentum for investments and policies to ensure affordable, thriving, and equitable communities. As always, there is an exciting schedule of educational and advocacy events to highlight the importance addressing our urgent housing needs, from tours of affordable housing projects to community conversations about policy and strategy to networking events to build our collective power to advocate for more housing in every community across King County. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity!
