Upgrades to Lift Station 11 at Fruitland Landing continue
Pipe relining expected to begin later this year
|
|
Crews continue working on improvements to Lift Station 11 at Fruitland Landing and are preparing to begin pipe relining work later this year. During that work, King County’s contractor will need to work carefully around existing utilities in the roadway to make sure services are maintained for the community. Construction schedules may change due to site conditions, weather, and material availability.
We will provide an update to the project website and email the Area 6 list serv when we have more details about the schedule and impacts for this work.

Upgrading Lift Station 11 at Fruitland Landing
Crews have been making progress in upgrading Lift Station 11, a below-ground structure located in Fruitland Landing. This work includes installing larger pumps and upgrading the lift station’s electrical system so that it can move more wastewater out of your community for safe treatment.
The lift station connects Mercer Island's wastewater system to King County's regional wastewater system. This helps prevent overflows in your neighborhood and Lake Washington. To complete upgrades safely, Fruitland Landing needs to remain closed. The park will reopen once construction on Lift Station 11 is complete.

Pipe installation and relining on 97th Ave S.E.
Last fall, crews installed new pipe along 97th Ave S.E., south of S.E. 34th St. This next phase of work will focus on relining the existing pipe on 97th Ave S.E. north of S.E. 34th St. Once pipe relining begins later this year, crews will work from north to south using a trenchless method to reline the existing pipe located in the middle of the street. This method reduces impacts to traffic and home access in the area, compared to the traditional method of digging a large trench for the pipe.

Plans for final restoration:
Once construction is complete, crews will restore the roadway on S.E. 97th Ave and Fruitland Landing. Final paving is weather dependent and will be scheduled during the permitted paving window, which is between mid-March and mid-October. We'll send a notice once a final paving date is scheduled. Fruitland Landing is expected to reopen for public use by the end of this summer.
