Last week, during a community event in Vancouver, BC celebrating Filipino culture, a person purposely drove an SUV into the crowd, killing 11 and injuring dozens. The festival featured a dance group that included King County residents, who thankfully were physically unharmed, but this kind of attack has a lasting impact on all who were present and affects the entire community. My heart goes out to all who lost loved ones and everyone in the Filipino community. I am committed to supporting them in any way I can and to ensuring everyone is and feels safe in King County.

Next Saturday, May 10, we are opening two new light rail stations along the 2 Line, Downtown Redmond and Marymoor Village, continuing the exciting expansion of our light rail system and bringing fast, frequent, and safe transit to more communities across our region. Join the celebration at Downtown Redmond Station beginning at 10:30am for the ribbon cutting, live performances, community organizations, and tons of excitement!
I’m especially excited that these stations will expand access to Marymoor Park, the jewel of King County’s regional parks system, including bike trails, the bird loop, playfields, concerts, and, of course, the best dog park in the state. That’s why, as a Sound Transit Boardmember, I’m proposing we update our rules to enable our four-legged friends to ride light rail while keeping everyone safe and comfortable. I look forward to working with my fellow boardmembers to ensure all good dogs and their people can enjoy “Doggie Disneyland”!

If you're someone who would like to contribute to the future of transit in our region, you can apply to join one of King County Metro's advisory boards! Right now, there are openings on both the Access Paratransit Advisory Committee and the King County Transit Advisory Commission.
The Access Paratransit Advisory Committee advises Metro Transit, the King County Executive, and the King County Council on issues related to Access paratransit; Access is Metro's transportation services for people with disabilities that prevent them from riding other buses. The King County Transit Advisory Commission advises Metro's staff members, the King County Executive, local jurisdictions, and related transportation boards about transit policy issues, projects, and programs.
It is critical that these commissions include people that reflect our county's diversity. Community feedback is essential to planning our public transportation in a way that is the most beneficial to our community, so consider applying by May 12!
