King County funded 841 new affordable homes that have opened or started construction across five projects in Bellevue, Federal Way, Seattle, and Vashon Island.
Since the start of this year, five affordable housing projects have broken ground or opened their doors with funding from King County. The developments will create 841 units of new affordable housing for seniors, veterans, and people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
"King County is focused on building as many affordable homes as we can to drive down costs and make sure everyone — no matter their income or zip code — has a place to call home,” said Executive Shannon Braddock. “As a region, we remain committed to tackling the housing crisis head-on as quickly as possible."
"When we invest in affordable housing, we also invest in healthy communities," said Kelly Rider, director of the Department of Community and Human Services. "I'm incredibly proud of and grateful to our staff and community partners whose work makes this progress possible."
The following projects broke ground or opened their doors:
-
Vashon Island Center Homes began welcoming residents in January. The development has 40 new rentals that are home to seniors, people who have experienced homelessness, and adults with developmental disabilities.
-
Redondo Heights Apartments in Federal Way opened in February. Led by Multi-Service Center and Shelter Resources the new complex has 334 affordable homes with easy access to the Redondo Park and Ride, a Metro RapidRide line, and soon, a light rail station.

-
Constellation Center and Apartments in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood broke ground in March on 84 affordable homes. Led by Community Roots Housing and YouthCare, this new development combines affordable housing with a youth center that offers financial empowerment programs, career planning, and other services for young people overcoming homelessness.
