Thank You for Your Support!
April 2025
Dear Friend,
As you may have heard, earlier this month we experienced the sudden, tragic passing of Councilmember Perry’s husband, Washington State Senator Bill Ramos.
The District 3 (D3) team is keeping Councilmember Perry and her family in our thoughts, as well as those in our communities who had the pleasure of knowing and working with Senator Ramos. We would like to thank you for the kindness and support you’ve shown Councilmember Perry and the D3 team over the past couple of weeks.
We hope you will continue to extend your thoughts and support during the months ahead as we carry on with the important work of serving and advocating for the residents of D3. In April, we laid foundations for the comprehensive work we will be undertaking on the issues that matter most to you. We’d like to share our progress with you here.
And as always, you can contact the D3 team by sending an email to sarah.perry@kingcounty.gov or by calling 206-477-1003.
All the best,
Your D3 Team

Council Briefings & Actions!
Council has been working hard this month! Here is some of the work on the issues that you’ve expressed matter most to you:
-
New Acting Executive: The Council unanimously approved a motion co-sponsored by Councilmember Perry to appoint Deputy Executive Shannon Braddock as acting King County Executive! Councilmember Perry is confident that executive Braddock’s decades of experience and deep knowledge of King County government will enable her to lead with a steady hand during this critical transition period.
-
Emergency Management Briefing: In the Local Services and Land Use Committee, we heard a briefing about wildfire preparedness from the Office of Emergency Management. Councilmember Perry spoke on its importance to D3 in particular, as many of our communities are located in areas at increased risk for wildfires. As committee chair, Councilmember Perry is leading work to improve our wildfire preparedness and response. Stay tuned for updates!
-
Safety on Public Transit: In the Transportation, Economy & Environment Committee, we heard a briefing from Metro about ensuring the safety and security of the hundreds of thousands of King County residents who utilize our public transit system every day. It remains a top priority for our office to promote measures that increase public safety for our transit riders and operators, especially in anticipation of the full opening of the 2 Line light rail from Redmond to Seattle, which will be a game changer for transportation in our region.

Uplifting non-profits in the Snoqualmie Valley!
At the beginning of April, Councilmember Perry attended a non-profit showcase organized by the Duvall Chamber of Commerce! The showcase, which was hosted at the beautiful Carnation Farms, featured non-profits serving communities in the Snoqualmie Valley and beyond. Here are the amazing non-profits we connected with at the event:

On the Issues!
On the Topic of Infrastructure & Environment
Fall City Floodplain Restoration Project: This April, we celebrated the first anniversary of the completion of the largest salmon habitat restoration project in county history! This project was made possible through over a decade of collaboration with the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe, and in partnership with the Fall City community, Snoqualmie Valley farmers, the Fish, Farm, Flood Committee, and many more.
A year later, King County ecologists are seeing improvements in the growth of our young salmon populations! It’s a cause for celebration that our collective efforts to steward our land and water have notably benefited our salmon populations while also strengthening flood protections and agricultural production, allowing our communities and our environment to thrive.
On the Topic of Small Businesses & Economic Vitality
Public Safety & Economics with our D3 Chambers: Councilmember Perry and the D3 team had the pleasure of attending two presentations hosted by our D3 chambers. With OneRedmond, we heard from Redmond Police crime prevention experts on ways to protect our businesses, and with the Woodinville Chamber, we heard from acclaimed economist Matthew Gardner about how national economic and political forces are manifesting in our local economy and housing market.
We’re excited to use and share the knowledge we learned from these speakers and the dedicated, insightful business owners in attendance to continue to ensure the health and safety of our communities, strive for affordable and sustainable housing development, and uplift our small businesses!
District 3 Chambers:
April Celebrations and Recognitions!
We kicked off the month by recognizing April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. The Council proclaimed April 13 as Vaisakhi Day, recognizing a significant celebration in the Sikh calendar. We also marked the 50th Anniversary of the Khmer Rouge Genocide, a brutal period of Cambodian history when two million people lost their lives. We wished those who celebrate a joyful and blessed Passover and Easter holidays. King County went above and beyond to celebrate Earth Week – not just Earth Day! We concluded the month with Yom HaShoah, a solemn day used to reflect on the atrocities committed during the Holocaust and honor the memory of the millions of victims.
The Communities of Opportunity-Best Starts for Kids Advisory Board/Governance Group guides the implementation of the Communities of Opportunity (COO) strategy and the COO elements of our county’s Best Starts for Kids program.
The COO works to address economic and health disparities in King County through promoting the development of affordable housing, increasing access to public spaces like parks, and supporting local businesses.
The Board is looking for new members! They are hoping to recruit an individual from District 3, as there are no D3 residents currently on the Board.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Visit the Board’s website or email info@coopartnerships.org for more information!
