Heathfield Pump Station Update

April 4, 2025, Update

King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is contacting you to provide an update on the Heathfield Pump Station. You may unsubscribe from these emails at any time.

Expect staff and activity at the Heathfield Pump Station the week of April 7

Starting as early as 10 a.m. on Monday, April 7, WTD and contractor crews will continue inspection of the force main pipe at the Heathfield Pump Station. Crews will use a specialized device called a “pig” to inspect the condition of the pipe.

We do not anticipate any significant changes in noise or vibration during the inspection.

What to expect:

  • Crews plan to work at the pump station during typical work hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) between April 7 and 11.
  • We do not anticipate any significant changes in noise or vibration during the inspection.
  • County and contractor vehicles will come and go from the pump station property.
  • There may be crews surveying the travel of the pig along the alignment of the force main in between the pump station and its discharge near the intersection of SE 35th Place and Eastgate Way. No traffic impacts are expected with these surveys.
  • For your safety and the safety of our staff, please do not approach the crews while they are working. If you have any questions, please call the Community Services team at (206) 263-4088.

Background:

Crews will inspect the force main that was damaged on Aug. 15, 2024. The force main was damaged when a valve being used to drain the force main suddenly closed. This caused a surge in water pressure in the force main, causing it to break.

County crews and contractors quickly mobilized to repair the broken pipe and restore operations at the Heathfield Pump Station. Wastewater flows were transferred to the second force main, which was installed in the 2022 upgrade project. The pump station is currently operating with the single force main.
