 April 7, 2025
Starting as early as Monday, April 14 crews working for King County Wastewater Treatment Division will begin digging small holes using vacuum trucks to verify underground utility locations around the M Street Trunk Line in the City of Auburn. Crews expect to complete this work in about a week. This work will provide important information about utility locations and will inform the design of the M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project. Once utilities are verified, crews will restore the pavement surface.

Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone area.
-
Work hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on business days. Work hours on M Street are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
-
One lane of alternating traffic will always be maintained.
-
Driveway access will be maintained. In the event of the work areas blocking a driveway, the crew will remove the barrier to allow access as needed.
-
Sidewalks and pedestrian walkways will be maintained, and flaggers will assist pedestrians as necessary.
-
Temporary restriction of on-street parking in work areas.
-
Nearby neighbors may experience slight vibrations and noise from the sampling activities and drilling equipment. The noise generated by the trucks is below the allowable daytime noise limits within the City of Auburn.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers in the work zone area.
About the project
The M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project will repair approximately 2.6 miles of concrete pipe in the City of Auburn. The project will also restore 45 maintenance holes and over 100 sewer connections to homes and businesses.
The trunk is a sewer line that receives wastewater from the City of Auburn system. The trunk carries the wastewater to the South Treatment Plant in Renton where it is cleaned and safely released in the Puget Sound.
During construction, wastewater will be sent into a temporary pipe called a sewer diversion pipe. This will allow crews to work inside the existing sewer pipe while maintaining services to the community. Noise and odor control will be used at critical points in the sewer diversion system.
Anticipated Project Schedule
We are committed to keeping the community informed throughout this project. We will provide construction information through the mail, email, text messages, and project flyers. There will also be opportunities to meet the project team in person or online in spring 2025. If you are hosting a community event, we can set up a table, provide materials, and answer questions. Please contact the project team if you are interested in having us attend! e
