As early as March 10, crews will be working on the I-90 Trail between 84th Avenue Southeast and Shorewood Drive and between Fortuna Drive and Southeast 35th Street on Mercer Island. This work is permit dependent and is pending approval from the City of Mercer Island.
Closure
Crews will be working in multiple areas at a time and need to close the I-90 Trail between 84th Ave S.E. and Shorewood Dr. and between S.E. 35th St and Fortuna Dr. to safely complete this work. While the trail is closed, please follow the posted trail detour route along North Mercer Way. Crews will begin this work by potholing areas along the trail and then proceed to repair the pipes in the trail.
Detour
During this work, the pedestrian detour will be routed along a temporary gravel path while cyclists will be detoured to merge with traffic along N. Mercer Way and follow I-90 trail where routed (see map below). Please follow all detour signs and travel slowly around the work area.
Please follow marked detours and signs. Drivers should use extreme caution while moving through this area.

Why is repair work needed?
Testing the pipe ensures the newly installed conveyance system operates as planned. Pipe testing revealed an issue that needs repairs. Crews are repairing the pipe to make sure the system operates correctly and safely to ensure reliable sewer service for your community.
We understand that these detours are inconvenient. We appreciate your patience as we work to complete construction as safely as possible. If you have questions about access, please call our construction hotline at 425-305-3578.
Plans for final restoration
When pipe repairs are complete, crews will backfill the trail and temporarily restore the surface where the pipe was installed. Then, crews will restore all disturbed areas based on permit conditions agreed upon with the City of Mercer Island. Final paving is weather dependent and will take place during the next permitted paving window, which begins in the spring.
