Councilmember Dembowski and Chair Zahilay welcomed Irene Yamamoto from Densho and Stanley Shikuma from the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) to receive the proclamation. Both gave thoughtful and insightful comments about how we must avoid repeating that history.

I chaired the Transportation, Economy and Environment (TREE) committee on Tuesday, which passed a significant service change to Metro bus service affecting 44 routes and increasing service by 160,000 hours. This service change known as East Link Connections will link Metro bus routes to 12 East Link light rail stations. It will provide bus service which is faster, more frequent and more reliable and which will be available to historically underserved populations. CM Balducci and CM Perry co-sponsored this service change which was the result of a 4-year public process. The full Council will be considering this service change on March 4.
On Wednesday, I attended the Local Services and Land Use Committee which received a briefing on updates to the Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO) to ensure best available science is used to protect sensitive ecological areas particularly around streams and waterways in King County. You can learn more about these updates here.
On Wednesday, I met with staff to the King County Flood Control District to hear plans for protecting areas such as the Green River Valley from flooding.
On Thursday, I heard an update on state legislation affecting King County. I met with leadership from the Department of Natural Resources and Parks. I also met with Teamsters Local 174 regarding concerns about the Cedar Hills Landfill.
On Friday, the council met for a full day retreat to discuss plans for the year ahead.
As a reminder, here are my committee assignments for 2025:
- Chair: Transportation, Economy and Environment Committee (TREE)
- Vice-Chair: Local Services and Land Use Committee
- Member: Budget Committee; Housing, Health and Human Services Committee, and Regional Transit Committee

I look forward to earning your trust as your voice on the Metropolitan King County Council.
