Closed Feb 10 - Feb 11 for forestry work.
To improve forest health King County Parks crews will close Cougar Mountain’s Big Tree Ridge Trailhead parking lot and Big Tree Ridge Trail (map) from 2/10 to 2/11. Access to parking and Cougar Mountain trails is available nearby at the Harvey Manning Trailhead.
Crews will conduct a small tree thinning project followed by site preparation for tree planting. In March crews and volunteers will plant around 4,000 tree seedlings in the same area.
The goals for this work is to 1) reduce density of maple and alder forest, and 2) increase tree species diversity and long-term carbon storage of this site.
