Monday, January 27, is International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest and deadliest Nazi concentration and extermination camp. International Holocaust Remembrance Day invites us all to remember the Holocaust and its atrocities, honor the victims, reject any denial of the Holocaust, condemn all manifestations of intolerance based on ethnicity or religion, and promote education about the Holocaust to prevent future acts of genocide.
The Holocaust Center for Humanity is holding a free music performance this weekend called Dedication in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day. This piece will be performed entirely by Roger Peltzman, who will recount his family's tragic story of escaping the Nazis through a combination of drama, images, and music. The concert will be held Sunday, January 26 at 7:00 pm at The Museum of Flight (9404 E Marginal Way S, Seattle)

This week, the King County Council appointed Bellevue City Councilmember Janice Zahn to the position of State Representative for the 41st Legislative District, left vacant with Tana Senn's appointment as Secretary of the Department of Children, Youth, and Families. Representative Zahn brings unique perspectives and a deep commitment to public service to her new position and I look forward to working with her in her new capacity on behalf of our shared constituents!

Good stormwater management is essential to the health of our people, wildlife, and environment. As Chair of the Regional Water Quality Committee, I have been working with partners across King County to approach stormwater management in innovative, eco-friendly ways.
In Kirkland, stormwater runoff around 132nd Square Park was creating water quality issues in Totem Lake and Juanita Creek. The King County Flood Control District, which I serve on, helped fund a full-scale redevelopment of the park, creating a system where over 90% of the rainwater in the neighborhood and the park itself can be treated, plus a synthetic turf field, new playground, walking trail, picnic shelters, and a sledding hill!
Kirkland’s stormwater park is just one of many water pollution solutions being pioneered in communities throughout King County. The park now serves as a model for our plans to build similar parks in 30 additional locations to reach our community's recreational and environmental goals.
As your councilmember on the King County Council, I need to know what’s important to you. Please consider taking a short survey to share your priorities and your ideas about how we can work together to make King County a safe, welcoming place for all in 2025.
