Funding Opportunity: Disaster Assistance for Bomb Cyclone
Federal and State disaster assistance is available to King County residents and businesses affected by November bomb cyclone. Read below to learn about the opportunities:
1. Small Business Administration (SBA) Disaster Assistance
Many people are still dealing with the impacts of November’s bomb cyclone. Low-interest loans are now available through the U.S. Small Business Administration for Washington businesses, residents, and private nonprofits whose businesses or homes were damaged between November 17-25 due to the storm. They cover disaster losses not fully covered by insurance or other sources.
Applicants can apply online or received application assistance by visiting one of two SBA Disaster Loan Outreach Centers. The Bellevue center location is the Bellevue Library (1111 110th Ave NE) in room 5 on the 2nd floor and is open Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm and Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. The Renton center location is King County Elections (919 SW Grady Way, Suite 100) and is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
The deadline to apply for property damage is February 21, 2025, and the deadline to apply for economic injury is September 23, 2025. For more information and to apply online, visit SBA.gov/disaster.
2. WA State Individual Assistance Program
Governor Jay Inslee issued a Proclamation of Emergency, which included the announcement of opening the State Individual Assistance Program. The proclamation unlocks $1 million in state funding, provided to the state’s Emergency Management Division from the Department of Commerce, to support ongoing recovery efforts. The proclamation also prepares Washington to seek a federal major disaster declaration to aid in repairing damaged public infrastructure.
If your primary home had major damage or was destroyed, you may qualify for financial assistance if your household earns below the 80% median income for the area. The program can provide reimbursement for extended sheltering, home repairs, and certain other unmet needs caused by the disaster. More details on the program can be found on the WA Emergency Management Division website.
