Substrate monitoring planned in the East Channel
Expect to see crews and divers as early as January 6
|
|
Earlier this year, crews restored and enhanced the shoreline under the I-90 bridge at Enatai Beach Park and the Mercer Island Boat launch. Enhancement work included installing logs along the shorelines and placement of gravels nearshore and along the East Channel to improve fish habitat.
As early as January 6, the restoration areas along the shorelines and in the East Channel will be surveyed using a boat and divers to measure the depth of the gravels placed during construction. Survey work will be conducted by a three-person crew on a small vessel. Data will be collected using sonar and divers to probe the lakebed in the project areas. This work is expected to last through the week.
This survey is part of the project’s ecological monitoring requirements. The goal of this monitoring is to check if the project is meeting the required restoration success criteria for the area.
