Construction continues near the Interbay Pump Station in early January

Work expected to last through 2025

As early as Monday, January 6, crews will begin underground construction near the Interbay pump station. First, crews will install the above ground sewer bypass pipe. This pipe will carry flows while the existing pipe is being upgraded. Then, crews will begin underground work to install a new sewer line by replacing 300 feet of sewer pipe.

Crews will also be installing a temporary 12-inch water main bypass piping system to carry fresh water until the new water main can be relocated and installed. The new water main will provide reliable services for your neighborhood for many years to come. We will update the project website and email the Interbay project list serv once we have more information about the schedule and impacts for the water line installation.

During this work crews will:

  • Install 30 inch above ground temporary sewer bypass pipe.
  • Replace 300 feet of pipe with new sewer pipe.
  • Install a temporary water main bypass to carry fresh water to homes and businesses.

What to expect

  • Road Closure: We plan to temporarily close a section of West Garfield Street and an undeveloped right of way to allow crews to complete work safely. Street closures are planned for 7am-5pm Monday through Thursday, and 24 hours Friday through Sunday. These road closures are expected to last through the end of the year.
  • Parking Impacts: Parking availability may be limited during this work. Please note that access to dumpsters will remain open for businesses and delivery access will be maintained.
  • Equipment and Service Vehicles: Expect construction vehicles and service trucks in the area.
  • Approved work hours are 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • We will provide advance notice of any weekend or after-hours work.
  • Noise, dust, and vibrations typical of an active construction project.
  • Construction schedules can change due to site conditions, weather, and material availability. Please visit our project website for updates.

During construction, access will be maintained for all emergency vehicles, garbage, recycling, composting, and mail services. If services are interrupted, please call the project hotline at 425-595-3452.

Please watch for equipment and crews in the area, maintain slow speeds to stay safe, and follow directions from crews.
