Starting as early as October 28, crews working for King County Wastewater Treatment Division will begin cutting into the existing pavement and digging holes using vacuum trucks to verify underground utility locations around the M Street Trunk Line in the City of Auburn. Crews anticipate completing the work by November 8, 2024. This work will provide important information about utility locations and will inform the design of the M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project. Once utilities are verified, crews will restore the pavement surface.
The map below shows the location of the utility investigation work areas.
What you can expect
- Work hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on business days between October 28 and November 8. Please note this work is weather dependent and schedules may shift.
- Traffic will be maintained in both directions of the work sites. However, expect lane closures.
- Driveway access will be maintained.
- Sidewalks and pedestrian walkways will be maintained, and flaggers will assist pedestrians as necessary.
- Temporary restriction of on-street parking in work areas
- Nearby neighbors may experience vibrations, noise, and dust from the sampling activities and drilling equipment. The noise generated by the trucks is below the allowable daytime noise limits within the City of Auburn.
Please watch for equipment and signs in the area, travel slowly, and follow directions from flaggers.
About the project
The M Street Trunk Rehabilitation Project will repair approximately 2.6 miles of reinforced concrete pipe that has more than 100 side sewer connections to nearby properties. The project will also rehabilitate 45 precast maintenance holes.
This pipe serves a densely populated area with many schools, homes, and businesses in the City of Auburn. During construction for the project, there will be impacts to traffic, including detours, temporary lane closures, and bus stops. We will work with the community to limit these disruptions and will share information about any impacts before they occur.
