Greetings everyone,
This is my first week in review so I will start with a brief introduction for those that have never worked with me. I started my career with KCSO in 1999 at Pct 3. I have had the opportunity to work all over the county in the last 25 years, but this is my first opportunity to work here in Shoreline. I am very excited to be here. From everything I have seen this is a fantastic work site and I am honored to be chosen as the Chief. I love coming to work and seeing cops doing cop things, and there is a lot of good work going on up here. I am looking forward to getting out and meeting everyone.
I am a people person at heart, and I have an open-door policy. Most off the time I will welcome the interruption so that I can stop staring at my screen. I am huge on career development and training. If you have career goals make sure that you discuss them with your Sgt. That way we can do everything we can to get you where you want to be in the department. In the coming weeks I want to talk to as many of you as possible. I want to know what works around here and where we can improve. That’s all I have for now. Take care.
- Chief Tommy Collins

At 3:05 AM on September 24, 2024, Shoreline officers were dispatched to a burglary in progress at Seashore's Mini Mart in Richmond Beach. Shoreline and Kenmore PD responded immediately and observed the suspects' vehicle leaving the area. The driver fled, and deputies initiated a vehicle pursuit. The suspects crashed into a building a few miles away. They were arrested at the crash scene and booked into King County Jail. One suspect has been criminally charged with Burglary 2nd Degree, Attempt to Elude Police Vehicle, Possession of Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Stolen Property. Criminal charges have been filed against the second suspect for Burglary 2nd Degree and Taking Vehicle Without Permission.
Seashore's Mini Mart owner, who has owned the business for over twenty years, said the community helped him clean up the broken glass and other debris. He reports that this is the fifth time in two months his store has been affected by crime. He greatly appreciates all of the assistance the police have given him.
This case was brought to resolution thanks to the excellent teamwork of Officers Dromgool, Jackson, Gundogdu, Glavin, Jarrett, Hernandez, Sgt. Campbell, Detective Gedney and others.

The City of Kenmore is operating photo enforcement for two types of traffic violations: red-light violations, and school-zone speeding violations. Before ticketing began, the city implemented a 60-day warning period. All enforcement zones were paired with advance warning signs and speed feedback signs, to give drivers every chance to self-correct before entering an enforcement area.
The red-light camera at 61st Avenue and SR 522 is active at all times. The warning period ended July 2024. Kenmore's two school zone cameras located near Arrowhead Elementary and Kenmore Elementary, are active only when school zones are active. Normal operations for these cameras began spring of 2023.
Although the school zone speed limit is 20 MPH, the enforcement threshold is 26 MPH. This enforcement system has dramatically reduced the incidence of speeding in school zones. Before cameras were installed, 99% of drivers travelled this stretch of road over 25 MPH. Now, only 1.5% of the drivers exceed 25 MPH.
The city plans to expand enforcement to include enforcement of the regulatory speed limit (30 MPH) all hours of the day beginning November 2nd and will continue to enforce the school zone speed limit (20 MPH when the flashers are on). A new school-zone camera near Inglemoor High will be installed early next year.
Tobin Bennett-Gold, City of Kenmore's Traffic Engineer says "I believe we have the lowest rate of photo enforcement violations in the region, and I credit much of that to our abundant attention to fairness and transparency of enforcement practices."
