Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week, King County Council committees have begun standing down so that councilmembers can focus on the budget. During this time, regular committee meetings are cancelled and all nine councilmembers join the Budget and Fiscal Management Committee (BFM).

The Executive is expected to transmit King County's 2025 Annual Budget on September 23rd. In the days and weeks following the transmittal, King County’s elected officials and Executive department directors will provide briefings to the BFM committee on their specific budget needs. After this series of briefings and action to support the 2025 budget, the King County Council is expected to take final action on the budget on November 19th or November 26th.

As the Council reviews the Executive's proposed budget, there will be multiple opportunities to provide public comment.

There are three upcoming evening town halls:

  • Thursday, October 10, 2024, 6 PM - 8 PM, Bellevue City Council Chambers Room 1E-126, 450 110th Avenue NE, Bellevue 98004
  • Thursday, October 24, 2024, 6 PM - 8 PM, Kent Senior Center Social Hall, 600 E Smith Street, Kent 98032
  • Wednesday, October 30, 2024, 6 PM - 8 PM, New Holly Gathering Hall, 7054 32nd Ave South, Seattle, WA 98118

And three upcoming budget panels:

  • Budget Panel #1 – Public Transit, Climate, Local Services, and Infrastructure, chaired by CM Sarah Perry - Tuesday Mornings, October 8 and 15, at 9:30 AM
  • Budget Panel #2 – Public Safety, chaired by CM Rod Dembowski - Wednesday Mornings, October 9 and 16, at 9:30 AM
  • Budget Panel #3 – Health, Housing and Human Services, chaired by CM Teresa Mosqueda - Thursday Mornings, October 10 and 17, at 9:30 AM

You can find Zoom information about how to access budget panels here. I invite you to join any of these meetings to learn more about King County's budget and participate in the budget process!

All my best,
