Starting as early as Monday, September 16 crews will begin paving and restoring the section of the I-90 Trail between 84th Ave Southeast and Shorewood Drive. This work is planned to take approximately three weeks. After completing paving and restoration activities, the section of trail between Southeast 26th Street and Shorewood Drive will reopen for community use.
Crews and equipment will be at the trail entrances between Southeast 26th Street and Shorewood Dr. There will be temporary lane restrictions on North Mercer Way while work occurs by the trail entrances. Please travel slowly around the work area and follow instructions from signs and flaggers.
During paving and restoration, the trail will remain closed until work is completed. While the trail is closed, please follow the posted trail detour route along North Mercer Way.
Trail access detour
Until the section of I-90 Trail between S.E. 26th St and Shorewood Dr re-opens, pedestrians should follow the path alongside North Mercer Way. Cyclists can follow the pedestrian path or merge with traffic on North Mercer Way.
Trail features
Once the trail reopens, trail users will enjoy a wider, paved trail with new landscaping, irrigation systems, and root barriers to protect the trail and promote healthy plant growth. Trail users will also see gravel along the side of the trail. This helps protect the new landscape.
In addition, there will be a few maintenance hole lids along the sides of this section of trail. These are necessary due to the location of existing utilities. They are skid-resistant, which makes them pedestrian and bicycle friendly.
