Your Weekly Update on What's Happening at the King County Council  

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This week, I was pleased to announce that two wonderful organizations in District 9 have been awarded Healthy Communities and Parks grants: Ayeko Farm in Enumclaw and Bicycle Rescue for Youth in Ravensdale! 

Ayeko Farm is receiving a $15,000 grant to support its Enumclaw Youth Conservation Internship that gives students the opportunity to learn about sustainable farming and conservation practices in a hands-on format while spending time outdoors and working with the land.

Bicycle Rescue for Youth is receiving a $9,900 grant to bolster their important work helping more low-income kids in South King County experience both the joy and the physical benefits of bicycling. With this funding, they'll be able to provide 150 bicycles and helmets as well as essential bike safety education.

I am proud to support funding for both of these organizations that provide valuable opportunities to residents in our district! Help King County plan the future of the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area

King County is working to help guide the future of the Greater Maple Valley/Cedar River area and is looking to members of the community for help!

The county is creating a subarea plan to help guide development and investments for the next 20 years in this area. Planners will work with community members to develop a vision, along with policies to help the community and King County government achieve that vision. The goal is to make real, equitable improvements in quality of life for everyone who lives, works, and plays in the unincorporated Greater Maple Valley/ Cedar River Community Service Area.

Cedar Hills Regional Landfill Community Meeting - September 18 at Maywood Middle School

King County’s Solid Waste Division will host an in-person meeting on Wednesday, September 18 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Maywood Middle School (14490 168th Ave SE, Renton).

This meeting is an opportunity to learn and ask questions about what’s going on at the Cedar Hills Regional Landfill, including current and planned construction projects, environmental monitoring activities, and operational activities. 

Language interpreters and reasonable accommodations for people with disabilities will be provided when requested at least one week before the meeting by calling 206-477-4466 or 711 TTY Relay.

Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 - Host City Poster Contest

Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 has launched their Host City Poster Contest! This is an exciting opportunity for local artists based in Washington State to showcase their talents and contribute to a historic global event.

FIFA selects tournament and host city posters for every World Cup. SeattleFWC26 is soliciting submissions and will select up to four finalists for a design to represent our City and State. Each finalist will receive a $2,500 finalist fee. FIFA will then pick the winning design from the four finalists. The winning design will be featured as the official poster for Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026, gaining national and international recognition.

They're looking for designs that capture the essence of the culture, community spirit, people, and passion for soccer that make Seattle and Washington special.
