Paving Activities on 108th Avenue Southeast near Southeast 34th Street through late September |
|
Expect flaggers, single-lane traffic, and detours
Crews continue to prepare 108th Ave S.E. near S.E 34th St for final paving. Drivers can expect single-lane traffic during working hours and two-way traffic after working hours.
Starting approximately September 12, crews plan to close the intersection at 108th Ave S.E. and S.E. 34th St to remove and replace the concrete in the roadway. Once the concrete has been removed the intersection will temporarily reopen. Then, from approximately September 23 – 25 the intersection will be closed again for crews to pave the final asphalt layer.
While crews work along 108th S.E., flaggers will direct single lane traffic through the work area. When the intersection is open, there will be single-lane traffic during working hours and two-way traffic after working hours. When the intersection is closed, there will be a detour around the work area (map below).
Closure at 108th Ave S.E. and S.E. 34th St intersection
Once crews reach the intersection, they will place barricades along the work area and begin breaking up the existing concrete by saw-cutting the concrete slab and removing it using an excavator. Once this is complete, crews will pour the new concrete slab. During this time, there will be detour signs to redirect traffic onto surrounding streets (map below). Please drive carefully and follow all signage and instructions from crews when traveling through the area. Once the concrete has been replaced, crews will put down the final asphalt layer at the intersection.
Grinding and paving the road for final restoration
Next, crews will remove the asphalt and prepare the roadway for paving. During grinding and paving, the intersection at 108th Ave S.E. and S.E. 34th St will be closed. Residents will be able to drive to and from their homes by following the detour route (map below). Please drive carefully over rough pavement, follow flaggers and posted detours, and plan for short delays. Permanent pavement needs a few hours to cure. If your driveway is in the work area, your driveway may be temporarily inaccessible for a few hours on September 25. When crews are onsite, they can assist you with walking to your home during this time.
