This section of trail expected to reopen in September
|
|
At the end of August, crews plan to begin paving the section of the I-90 Trail between 84th Ave Southeast and Shorewood Drive. The trail has been closed for pipe installation, pipe testing, and restoration. Once pipe testing is complete, crews will pave the trail. This section of trail is expected to reopen in September once trail paving and restoration activities are complete. While the trail is closed, please follow the posted trail detour route along North Mercer Way.
Until the section of I-90 Trail between S.E. 26th St and Shorewood Dr reopens, pedestrians should follow the path alongside North Mercer Way. Cyclists can follow the pedestrian path or merge with traffic on North Mercer Way.
Trail restoration
Once the trail reopens, trail users will enjoy a wider, paved trail with new landscaping, irrigation systems, and root barriers to protect the trail and promote healthy plant growth. Trail users will also see gravel along the side of the trail. This helps protect the new landscape.
In addition, there will be a few maintenance hole lids along the sides of this section of trail. These are necessary due to the location of existing utilities. They are skid-resistant, which makes them pedestrian and bicycle friendly.

Preview of a section of the I-90 trail that will open at the end of the summer.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during this critical sewer upgrade project. Project crews are working hard to finish construction along this section of the I-90 trail so we can return this space to the community.
