Crews testing new sewer infrastructure in the area
Crews are continuing work on the sewer pipes and structures on 78th Ave S.E., S.E. 24th St, and 81st Ave S.E. Once this work is complete, crews will backfill the excavated area and pave with temporary asphalt. Please check our project website for updates on construction activities and schedules.
Permanent paving and restoration to existing conditions in the area will happen later this year. We will notify the community when a paving date has been scheduled.

Single-lane traffic and flaggers
During this work there will be periodic single-lane traffic on 78th Ave S.E., S.E. 24th St, and 81st Ave S.E. near the Mercer Island Park and Ride. Flaggers and signage will direct traffic through the area. Single-lane traffic will only be in place during the planned work hours of 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays. The roadway will be reopened at night and on weekends.
Please use caution when traveling through the work area and follow all signage and directions from the crew.

What to expect

Approved work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
- While approved to work Saturdays, this work is planned for weekdays only.
- Flaggers will direct single-lane, alternating traffic through the work areas.
- Roads will be restored to two-way traffic after work hours.
- Noise, dust, and vibrations typical of an active construction project.
- Emergency vehicle access will be maintained.
- Garbage, recycling, composting, mail, and delivery service will be maintained.
