New DOH Bleach Chart & Updated CCHP Bleach Materials

If your child care or early learning program uses bleach for sanitizing and disinfecting, please be aware that the Washington Department of Health (DOH) has updated its bleach and water mixing chart. The chart now aligns with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for disinfecting, which changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

• The disinfecting solution is now slightly stronger at ~1000 parts per million (ppm). (It was 500-800 ppm before the pandemic.)
• The sanitizing solution concentration has not changed.

As a reminder, sanitizer should be the main solution used in your program during the day. The disinfecting solution must be used on diapering surfaces after each diaper change and as needed on bathroom surfaces, but most disinfecting tasks should be done at the end of the day, when children are no longer present. Always make sure staff have proper safety equipment, such as goggles, gloves, an apron, and an eyewash station available when mixing bleach solutions.

The CCHP has updated its bleach materials to reflect this change. On our cleaning and bleach webpage you will find:

Continuing Education & Training Opportunities

Haring Center DCYF Early Childhood Complex Needs “Back to School” Training Series

DCYF is offering trainings to support child care workers who care for young children with complex needs. These trainings will be facilitated by the UW Haring Center and will focus on:

• Designing Classroom Routines, Transitions, and Schedules - 8/19 or 9/5
• Creating Supportive Learning Environments - 8/22 or 9/12
• Classroom Management - 8/27 or 9/19
• Teaming & Collaboration - 8/29 or 9/26
• Inclusive Large Groups - 9/3 or 10/3
• Supporting Multilingual Learners - 9/10 or 10/10

All trainings are FREE and held remotely via Zoom. In-Service STARS credit will be offered for all trainings.

Target Audience: Infant, Toddler, and Preschool Providers.

Training Dates and Times: Each topic has an afternoon and evening option. For  topics and dates, see these flyers in English, Spanish, and Somali. 

Training Languages: All training topics will be offered in English, Spanish, and Somali.
